Tour Rankings - How they work

The Tour Rankings are designed to allow a comparison of player performance over a given period of time. Players on the EuroDov Tour play a mixture of events and have differing commitments to the Tour. So, for the first time through the creation of the Tour Ranking system it will now be possible to compare multiple players.

This page will explain how the process is undertaken in 3 stages.

Stage 1 - Strength of Field calculation

Following the closing of an events field the Tour will attribute a Rating Value to the event based on pre-determined values linked to player's current rankings..

This rating is calculated by adding up the values of all the players playing in the tournament based on their current Tour Ranking. This will give a rating between 0-149.

The rating value will then be used to determine how many Tour Ranking points are available for the given event.

For example if the 1st, 2nd, 6th & 7th ranked players were appearing in a four person tournament the rating value would be 20 + 16 + 9 +8 = 53.

Stage 2 - Ranking points calculation

Following the Strength of Field calculation and the determination of the given event's Rating Value the Tour will then determine how many Tour Ranking points are available for the given event.

Using the example above where the tournament had a rating value of 53, we would then identify the vertical column that correlates to this number, in this case it would be the 39 to 76 column.

This shows us that for this event the winner would be awarded 30 Tour Ranking points and subsequent decrements with 10th place having 4.5 points and no points awarded to places thereafter.

Events are segmented into quartiles based on rating values with more points available as the events value increases.

Major events are the exception however. Major events have two ranking structures. For the Montgomery Cup and the Order of Merit full ranking points are awarded, with 100 points awarded to the winner and subsequent places award points as shown.

For limited field Majors (The Invitational and EuroDov Cup) points are awarded at three-quarters the rate of the Major rankings, with 75 points for the winner and subsequent places awarded points as shown.

Stage 3 - Collection of points and final calculation

One the Rating Value has been determined and the Ranking Points identified  points are awarded to players based on their final standing in the tournament.

To calculate a players Tour Rankings tournament points are added to give a Total Points calculation which is then divided by Tournaments Played which produces an Average Points calculation, these are then rounded to two-decimal points and the Tour Rankings are then deduced from this.

The minimum number of Tournaments Played is set at 6. Players who have not played 6 tournaments in a two-year period will have this set as the divisor. Players who have played more than this will use Tournaments Played as their divisor.

Total Points are accrued for a period of two-years (total of 26 tournaments) at the end of a two year period players points are replaced as each tournament is complete.

For example: Player A wins Tournament 1 in 2021 and collects 50 ranking points and in 2022 they come second in Tournament 1 collecting 40 points. However in 2023 they finish last in Tournament 1 they collect 0.5 points. The 2023 result would replace the 2021 result meaning the player would lose 49.5 ranking points.
