The ninth playing of the RyDov Cup gave us loads of stories and images that will go down in the history of the tournament.

However, nothing tells the whole story like the cold hard numbers behind it all, and this year certainly changed the RyDov Cup landscape for a few years to come. Let’s take a look at 9 tournaments of stats and see what they tell us.

Since 2013 43 players have taken part in the RyDov Cup, as of 2023 12 players had made 1 appearance, 8 players 2 appearances, 2 players 3 appearances, 2 4 appearances, 6 players 5 appearances, 4 players 7 appearances, 4 players 8 appearances and only 2 players Stuart Sutherland and David McColgan have appeared in all 9 tournaments held since 2013.

In 2023 there was a changing of the guard at the top of the total points scored column. Long dominated by David McColgan – who scored zero points in 2023 – a new name at the top Allan Kinnear.

Of players who have played more than 3 tournaments the list looks;

Looking at points win percentage Allan Kinnear remains atop of the leaderboard. In his 6 appearances he’s only ever lost twice – 2023 was only his second loss. The leaderboard looks like;

Allan Kinnear is carving himself out a reputation as the closest thing to a guaranteed point in the RyDov Cup.

Special mention goes to Richard Mair, whose 2 appearances exclude him from the record books, but in back-to-back appearances he has recorded a 100% points win, collecting a total of 6 points from 6.

Taking a look at the singles records there is a slight shuffle of the leaderboard, looking at the top 5 points scorers after 2023 it stands as;

4. David McColgan – 4.5
John Hedges – 4.5

And the top 5 in win percentage in the singles format are;

1. Barry Cunningham – 80%
2. Andy Love – 79%

Moving on to the Foursomes format it is clear to see who the dominant player has been over the years, Allan Kinnear sits top with 12 points, from 12 points a 100% win rate. What is more impressive is he has played with 6 different partners over that period. Here is the top 5 points scorers;
