EuroDov Reporter has poured over the stats, the form sheets and consulted their crystal ball and if they are right, we’re in for a real battle for the RyDov Cup.

After analysing all 12 singles matchups they have it poised at 6-6, with Team Gowens winning the final match – important because the team that wins that match has gone on to win the cup 67% of the time.

In the morning singles there is a point available for each match – 12 in total – and in the afternoon the Greensomes offers 2 points per match – meaning a further 12 points are available.

At this point it is worth remembering that Team Love require 14 points to retain the trophy, but Team Gowens require 14.5 points to win it.

Let’s unleash EuroDov Reporter on the stat books for one more time and see what they have to say on the 6 Greensomes matches and where the RyDov Cup will be headed after the close of play.

Match 3 features Denis Duncan & Daniel Peck v Andy McGregor & Stevie Orr.

This is the first game that will have a reasonable handicap difference. At the time of writing Duncan/Peck have a numerical advantage of 6 strokes, which could be quite sizeable over the course of the afternoon.

Daniel Peck stands out of this group with an 83%-win rate in 6 appearances. In fact, in his 5 wins Peck has won with 4 different partners, showing a strong adaptability in his game. It’s also worth noting that Peck beat McGregor in 2021 – grudge match is on!

Next up though is Andy McGregor who has a 33% success rate followed closely by Denis Duncan on 31%.
Stevie Orr is yet to record a point in this format losing in his one and only appearance so far.

There are so many variables here, one being what Stevie Orr turns up – do we get blown away by the King’s Cup performance or is it something else. His matchplay credentials have been very good in 2024 beating superior opposition on the way to the semi-finals of the Matchplay tournament.

However, looking at the 6 shot handicap advantage, the pedigree in Peck, this match has to be a strong chance for Love to pick up points in the middle order, I am giving this one to Team Love.

Team Love 10 – 8 Team Gowens
