EuroDov Tour
Friday, 7 September 2018

The Fourth playing of the RyDov Cup saw two new Captains take the helm and Team hedges, Cpatained by John Hedges, faced Team Hardie, Captained by Scott Hardie. It also saw the inclusion of four rookies in David Hutcheson, Ryan Strachan, Allan Kinnear and Danilel Peck.

The morning singles saw some of the biggest results in RyDov Cup history. Rookie Allan Kinnear over powered Marcus McCran to record a 8&6 win; Ryan Strachan, another rookie, recorded a 7&6 win; RyDov vets David McColgan and Kevin Brannan each recorded 6&5 and 5&3 wins respectively. All three putting 4 points on the board for Team Hedges.

The bottom of the order for Team Hedges also delivered with 3&2 wins for McColgan Snr. and Hamilton.

Match two saw Denis Duncan recorded a 2&1 win over rookie David Hutcheson to put a point on the board for Team Hardie.

The match of the morning was Hedges Snr. v Hedges Jnr.

Hedges Snr. was in a commanding lead throughout the early stages of the round, however Hedges Jnr. dug deep to find the spirit of 2016 where he overturned McColgan 3&2. After winning the 14th hole he went on to win 15, 16 & 17 to walk on to the 18th tee All square.  After two drives into the trees on the right, Hedges Jnr. advanced hi second shot to the middle of the fairway and Hedges Snr. would follow.

Hedges Snr. the pulled his second shot into the trees on the left as Hedges Jnr. hit his approach to the front edge of the green. Following a couple of shots out of the trees on the left Hedges Snr. conceded the hole on the 18th green giving Hedges Jnr. the victory 1 Up.

The morning finished 7 v 1 for Team Hedges.

History would tell you that a strong lead in the morning singles is not a prerequisite to winning the RyDov Cup and Team Hardie could well take confidence in the victories of Team Dov in 2013 & '16.

Captain John Hedges chose to lead out for his team in the afternoon alongside RyDov rookie Allan Kinnear. They would play Marcus McCran and Denis Duncan. Kinnear would continue his power play from the morning singles and delivered an 8&7 win alongside captain Hedges.

Their win took Team Hedges over the 8 point winning line before the other matches had even reached the back nine in the afternoon.

The other matches were played out in the knowledge that the Cup was in the bag. Hedges Snr. & Stuart Sutherland recorded a 3&2 win over Brannan/McColgan. Green & Peck took down the Kinross pairing of Hutcheson/McColgan and Hamilton & Strachan won for the bottom of the order for Team Hedges.

The final result of 11 v 5 for Team Hedges is the largest winning margin in the history of the RyDov Cup.
