RyDov Cup 2013 - The Collapse at Kinross
EuroDov Tour
Friday, 6 September 2013

The inaugural RyDov Cup was held on September 7th, 2013. The ensuing 36 holes would go down in RyDov folklore and set the tone for the years to come.

The matches were contested by two teams of six players captained by father and son combo William McColgan and David McColgan. The morning matches, played on the Montogomery Course at Kinross, were a tense affair. Only Barry Cunningham and John Hedges (Team Wills) would take firm command of thier matches and the morning result eventually finished 4.5 v 1.5 for Team Wills.

The morning dominance meant that Team Wills required only one win in the afternoon format to lift the inaugural Cup.

The morning may have been a disappointment for Team Dov however the lunch break and afternoon Greensomes were a rallying call. With the knowledge that any match lost would result in the Cup going to Team Wills they came out firing.

The first Team Dov points of the afternoon came from the final match as Captain and Vice Captain David McColgan and Marcus McCran took down Stuart Sutherland and John Hedges in a forensic masterclass, finishing the match on the 12th hole 7&6.

News of their win buoyed the pairings up front and Hamilton and Brannan sealed another win on the 17th hole 2&1, leaving the match perfectly poised on 5.5 v 4.5 to Team Dov. The result of the entire tournament would come down to the 18th hole in the match between Bell & Green and McColgan & Webb.

Christopher Bell's putting had kept the Team Dov pairing in the match for most of the afternoon and and with the other two matches gathered at the 18th hole both teams found themselves on the green for three and par putts awaiting. Webb with a 22 footer rolled his putt to 3 feet leaving Christopher Bell with an 18 footer for Par and the win.

With the hopes of his team on his shoulders Bell stroked the putt dead centre and perfect wait, and as it dropped Team Dov won, possibly the unlikeliest in the history of RyDov History. But a clean sweep of the afternoon Greensomes saw the Team win 7.5 v 4.5 and complete the Collapse at Kinross.
