2025 King's Cup: Tournament Preview
EuroDov Reporter
Sunday, 1 June 2025

Following the completion of the Dodhead Invitational the EuroDov Tour takes its usual hiatus as players focus on off-Tour commitments across the country.
But whilst players are off ploughing non-Tour endeavours, we’re here crunching the numbers and looking at the events on the horizon. With four regular season events in the bag for the 2025 Order of Merit, the King’s Cup, on July 20th marks an acceleration point or the Race to Craigielaw. Within the space of a month the Tour will host the King’s Cup, the Forrester-Lochgelly Open and finish with the Tour Champs which will see the Champion Golfer of the Year crowned. And every point won along the way will be crucial.
Unlike in previous years many of the players will be arriving at Canmore having played it already in the Carnegie Cup – good memories for the EuroDov Tour players, less so for the Co-sanction SanWedge players. And crucially unlike any previous year since the creation of the Order of Merit the players will tee it up without the Order of Merit leader David McColgan present, add to the news that Richard Mair – currently sitting second – won’t be there too and it’s anyone’s game on what might happen.
As ever EuroDov Reporter has been pouring over the data to bring you their predictions so sit back and take it all in.
Hot Favourites -
Paul Gowens – 4/1
2025 Season: 2nd, 6th, 1st
King’s Cup Record: 1st (2022), 9th (2024)
Gowens Senior is have a 2025 to resemble 2022, he’s got a Major under his belt already and a an OoM win at the MCM @ Pitfirane couple that with a pair of top-6 finishes already in 2025, and his history as a winner at the King’s Cup he’s the obvious frontrunner.
Fun fact – the last time Gowens Senior won the MCM, he won the King’s Cup that July too.
Stuart Allan – 5/1
2025 Season: 9th, 4th, 7th, 2nd
King’s Cup Record: 6th, 5th, 2nd, 6th
Mr. Consistency. Allan has stretched back in to the past and found a golf game many of us knew he had, he has never finished outside the top 6 at this event and is heating up in 2025, fresh off a runner-up finish at Dodhead he might just have the momentum to grab that win.
Daniel Peck – 6/1
2025 Season: 8th, 2nd, 6th, 5th
King’s Cup Record: 6th, 11th, 2nd
Ok he’s unquestionably the best SanWedge Player never to win an event. However, with steady form all season and a runner-up finish last year in the King’s Cup, Peck is due. He’s quietly assembling one of the Tour’s most reliable resumes with the only blemish that lack of wins.
Strong Contenders -
Stevie Orr – 8/1
2025 Season: 6th, 2nd, 3rd, 12th
King’s Cup Record: 12th, 13th, 1st
He’s the defending champ with early-season fire. Orr’s hiccup at Dodhead is the only blemish on an otherwise stellar run so far this year that has seen him record two top 3 finishes, that’s impressive golf in anyone’s books. Don’t count out the reigning King, he’s got the pressure of missing the Tour Champs and points are crucial for him at this stage of the season.
Kevin Brannan – 10/1
2025 Season: 6th, 9th, DNP, 1st
King’s Cup Record: 5th, 4th, 10th, 8th
A winner last time out at Dodhead and consistently inside the top 10 at King’s Cups since 2021. Despite his win last time out he may fly under the radar—but not for long, his steady driving and quite confidence serve him well in the often chaotic field of battle.
Ally Greenshields – 11/1
2025 Season: 10th, 8th, 5th, 13th
King’s Cup Record: 11th (2023)
Boom or Bust in 2025, Greenshields had recovered from a poor start at the St Andrews Open with two top 10 finishes, but the hype was definitely damped with a last place finish at the Dodhead. He’ll have good memories of his singles performance at the Carnegie Cup, but the result this time firmly lies on his own shoulders.
Players to Watch Out For -
Callum McNeill – 12/1
2025 Season: 5th, 10th, 9th, 8th
King’s Cup Record: 5th, 6th
Always in the mix but never on the podium. McNeill’s ceiling is high, and if he finds rhythm early, he could finally make his leap. He’s not finished outside the top 10 in 2025, but he’s also not broke into the top 5 at any point either. A 5th and 6th place finish in the King’s Cup in years gone by shows however he knows his way around Canmore.
Stuart Sutherland – 14/1
2025 Season: 4th, 6th, 11th
King’s Cup Record: 4th, 10th, 14th, 4th
After a stellar 2024 that saw him win twice, and finish 4th at the King’s Cup, Sutherland’s season has been on a bit of steady decline, Sutherland is dangerous when his iron play is sharp. Two 4th-place King’s Cup finishes give him solid sleeper appeal.
Alan Duncan – 15/1
2025 Season: 12th, 12th, 11th, 10th
King’s Cup Record: 5th (twice)
The form isn’t there, but course knowledge is. He’s trending in 2025, but he’s trending from a long ways back, he’ had a great performance here in the Carnegie Cup, and some off-Tour success point to a player that when it all clicks…it clicks.
Unpredictable Talents -
Denis Duncan – 16/1
2025 Season: DNP, 10th, DNP, 5th
King’s Cup Record: 2nd (twice), 8th
If Denis tees it up, look out. He’s a King’s Cup specialist, he’s had two runner-up spots around Canmore, a course he knows well, but with only two starts this season, he’s yet to get going but he's trending in the right direction, 10th at Kinghorn and an impressive 5th at the Dodhead point to a player who is not lacking in confidence.
Jim Robertson – 18/1
2025 Season: DNP, 14th, 13th, 11th
King’s Cup Record: 4th (2023)
The numbers aren’t kind this year. Robertson is definitely building back to strength after his health scare in 2024, but he’s showing some flashes of brilliant golf. Past success here gives him a shot, and watch for him to continue that upward trajectory on the leaderboard.
The Longshots -
Greig Baxter – 25/1
2025 Season: DNP, 13th, 9th, 7th
King’s Cup Record: 11th (2022)
This is a tough one to put so low, Baxter knows Canmore well, and whilst we’ve seen a slight form uptick there’s little to suggest a serious run at the trophy. He needs a breakthrough moment on Tour and if it comes at Canmore no one will be surprised.
Scott Gowens – 30/1
2025 Season: 10th, 8th, DNP, 10th
King’s Cup Record: No appearances
Not a bad 2025 – his first on the Order of Merit after winning Q-School in 2024, but no history at this course and no standout finishes in 2025 make it hard to predict he’ll lift silverware in July. Likely to be middle of the pack again – and if he finds himself near the top of the middle, he’ll be a happy golfer.
Well, there we have it folks EuroDov Reporters predictions for the 2025 King’s Cup, which will take place at Canmore Golf Club on Sunday 20th July. Be sure to join us for all the news, insight and analysis.
