It’s March, which means it’s time for the EuroDov Cup, which means the 2025 EuroDov Tour season is just around the corner.

It’s been a long, dark, cold, and did I mention long winter and after 197 days the Tour is back with the traditional season opening Major.

In its 7th year the EuroDov Cup returns to Spain for the first time since the inaugural tournament in 2018. Since the event has been held in 3 countries and across 9 different courses.

In 2025 the Cup will be competed for over El Paraiso GC, Marbella Country Club and Los Naranjos all in the Marbella area of the Costa del Sol.

Los Naranjos Golf Club is a standout course on the Costa del Sol, designed by the renowned Robert Trent Jones Sr. Opened in 1977, it has matured into one of the best golf courses in the region. The course features wide fairways, strategically placed hazards, and large undulating greens, making it suitable for players of all skill levels.

El Paraiso Golf Club, designed by Gary Player, is one of the oldest established courses on the Costa del Sol. It offers a picturesque setting with lush fairways, meandering streams, and an abundance of exotic flora. It features a mix of narrow and wide fairways, providing a varied and enjoyable challenge.

Marbella Golf and Country Club is another gem designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Since its opening in 1994, it has been a key player in Marbella's golf tourism scene. The course is known for its challenging layout, with wide fairways that become more difficult as you approach the greens. The course demands concentration and strategic play, making it a rewarding experience for serious golfers.

Now we know the canvas, let’s take a look at the artists looking to paint the winning picture in 2025.

Across the field we’ve got a total of 49 honours including 3 Major winners, Kevin Brannan, David McColgan and Callum McNeill. It also boasts multiple Tour winners in Stuart Allan, Paul Gowens and Richard Mair and Tour winner - Stephen Green. In fact, it’s the first EuroDov Cup field where every player has won an honour on Tour, which sets us up for an undeniably major event.

EuroDov Reporter has looked at the field and brought you their thoughts on the final result come end of play.

David McColgan
Odds: 7/4
Notes: Ok, ok…what a boring prediction, but hear me out.

McColgan has won 4 out of the previous 6 EuroDov Cups, that’s hard to argue with. He’s won over tournaments played on single and multiple courses and his ability allows him to handle the challenge of new courses.

He's probably got the most consistent and reliable swing, and this matters, especially so early in the season. He’s never finished outside the top 3 in the EuroDov Cup, and I don’t have him breaking this habit in 2025.

Richard Mair & Paul Gowens
Odds: 3/1
Notes: Ok they are both here but have different stories.

Probably McColgan’s biggest threat is Richard Mair, he’s an incredibly consistent golfer who very rarely cards above his handicap. The key to beating McColgan is consistency over the 3 days, and Mair might just do that.

The only draw back for Mair in 2025 is the fact that it’s his first EuroDov Cup. There’s something of a rhythm required of the competition, from the early start on day 1 to knowing how to enjoy the off course action, but not too much to affect the on course action the next day.

Talking of consistency there is Paul Gowens. Gowens’ debut season on Tour led him to win the Harry Vardon Trophy, for the best average score over the season, it has led him to 2 seasons with multiple wins a feat that has only been achieved by fellow Tour members McColgan and Brannan.

In 2024 his debut in the EuroDov Cup, Gowens carded back-to-back-to-back 5-over par rounds on three courses he’d never laid eyes on and lost out on his debut Major on a countback to David McColgan.

His consistent, accurate play makes him deadly in a format that requires consistency over three days, and he’ll not be far from the lead come the close of play in 2025.

Stuart Allan & Kevin Brannan
Odds: 4/1
Notes: Ok let’s look at Allan. He’s got all the assets to win on Tour, he’s already done it three times. He’s also won over multiple round formats in the Tour Championships.

His off-Tour commitments however has seen his golf take a bit of a back seat this winter, and multiple bag changes still has him finessing his club selections for the start of the season.

Allan’s success on Tour so far has come on courses that don’t overly penalise stray balls from the tee, and on some of the stadium style courses in Spain he could excel.

Brannan returns to Tour duty after missing the second half of the season with a broken wrist. It’s his first time hitting the ball in anger and as such he enters the event with little expectation, but that might just be the relaxed approach he needs.

Brannan lifted his first major in the 2023 iteration of the EuroDov Cup and he knows he has what it takes to win a Major.

Callum McNeill
Odds: 6/1
Notes: This is a ludicrous position to put McNeill in but hear me out. I am happy to end up with egg on my face, if he pops up and wins it. However, his handicap has plummeted since the Tour’s last outing, and he could find it hard to compete in the field with such a big change.

One thing in McNeill’s favour is the level of winter golf he plays, arguably playing more golf most of the field. So he’ll arrive in Marbella with an understanding of where his game is, good or bad, and if he can find more good swings than bad he could be in line for his second ever Major.

Stephen Green
Odds: 7/1
Notes: At the end of the day, someone needs to be last on this list, and I suspect Mr Green won’t argue too much with this.

His Tour participation has been limited to the EuroDov Cup since moving to London, and his time on the course as reduced even more since he welcomed his first child to the world in 2024.

Green’s had mixed results in the EuroDov Cup with a 5th, 6th, 3rd, 4th and 6th place finish over the years and he can certainly mix it with the best of them out there.

There we have it folks, EuroDov Reporters analysis of the 2025 EuroDov Cup field. We’ll be bringing you all the coverage and action from the tournament which runs from the 23rd to the 25th March.
