EuroDov Cup 2026: Who Can Win in Marbella?

EuroDov Reporter

Sunday, 15 March 2026

For all the talk of courses, weather and momentum, the EuroDov Cup ultimately comes down to a simple question.

Who in the field is capable of winning it?

History suggests the answer is usually a small group. Over seven previous editions, the trophy has been shared by just three players. David McColgan has claimed the Cup five times, while Kevin Brannan and Greig Baxter each have a single victory.

That dominance tells us something about the tournament itself. The EuroDov Cup rewards the player who can maintain a high level of golf across three consecutive rounds, across unfamiliar courses, and under the pressure that comes with the Tour’s first Major.

The 2026 field features eight players, each arriving in Marbella with their own narrative — some chasing history, others chasing redemption, and a few still chasing their first defining moment.

Here is the field, ranked not by reputation alone but by how their games and recent form suggest they might perform across three days in Spain.

1. David McColgan — The Five-Time Champion
Odds to Win: 2/1
Predicted Finish: 1st–3rd

Five wins from seven EuroDov Cups is not dominance. It is ownership.

David McColgan has shaped the identity of this tournament more than any other player, mastering the three-day format in a way that no one else has managed to replicate. His ability to control tournaments across multiple rounds — limiting mistakes while steadily accumulating birdies — has repeatedly proven decisive.

Yet this year’s championship carries an unfamiliar storyline.

The 2026 EuroDov Cup marks McColgan’s first appearance since the dramatic collapse at the 2025 Tour Championship, where he entered the event as favourite to win the James Braid Quaich before the pressure of the moment unravelled his challenge.

For a player who has spent much of the past decade as the Tour’s dominant force, the question is unavoidable.

Is the aura still there?

Or are the chasing pack finally catching him?

Where He Succeeds
• multi-round tournaments
• course management
• protecting leads

Where He Struggles
• slow starts
• pressure narratives following recent setbacks

Why He Can Win

Because he usually does.

2. Paul Gowens — The Grand Slam Hunter
Odds to Win: 3/1
Predicted Finish: 1st–3rd

If one player arrives in Marbella with momentum, it is Paul Gowens.

His 2025 season was one of the most impressive campaigns the EuroDov Tour has seen in years. Two Major victories and multiple tournament wins transformed him from contender into genuine rival to McColgan’s long-standing dominance.

The EuroDov Cup now represents something more than another Major opportunity.

It is a step toward history.

Victory in Marbella would give Gowens three different Major titles, something no other player on the Tour has achieved – outside McColgan. More importantly, it would leave him needing only one remaining Major to complete the EuroDov Grand Slam, a feat accomplished only once before.

He came agonisingly close here in 2024, losing on countback.

Few players will arrive in Spain with clearer motivation.

Where He Succeeds
• momentum-driven tournaments
• confidence under pressure
• attacking scoring conditions

Where He Struggles
• occasionally forcing the issue too early

Why He Can Win

Because he may currently be the most confident player on Tour.

3. Kevin Brannan — The Proven Major Player
Odds to Win: 5/1
Predicted Finish: 2nd–4th

Kevin Brannan already knows what it takes to win the EuroDov Cup.

His victory in Cascais in 2023 was one of the defining performances of that season, and it formed part of a remarkable year in which he also captured The Invitational, confirming his reputation as a player who thrives on the biggest stages.

What makes Brannan particularly dangerous is that his game appears to be improving rather than fading. Over the past few seasons he has refined his approach to tournament golf, showing greater patience and consistency.

Three of his career victories have come in Majors or flagship events, suggesting that when the stakes rise, so does his level.

If McColgan and Gowens represent the present rivalry on Tour, Brannan remains the third figure capable of disrupting the balance.

Where He Succeeds
• Major championship environments
• controlling difficult rounds
• closing tournaments

Where He Struggles
• occasional cold stretches with the putter

Why He Can Win

Because he already has.

4. Callum McNeill — The Rising Major Contender
Odds to Win: 7/1
Predicted Finish: 2nd–5th

Few players on the EuroDov Tour project calm quite like Callum McNeill.

At times he appears almost too relaxed — so unbothered by pressure that observers joke he is “horizontal.”

But beneath that laid-back exterior is a game that continues to trend steadily upward.

His victory at the 2023 Montgomery Cup secured his first Major title, confirming that he possesses the ability to close out the biggest events. Since then he has continued to improve, highlighted by a strong performance in the 2025 EuroDov Cup, where he finished tied for third.

That result may prove significant.

Players often contend in this tournament once before learning how to win it.

If McNeill arrives in Marbella with confidence, few would be surprised to see him leaving Spain with Major number two.

Where He Succeeds
• relaxed temperament under pressure
• steady scoring across multiple rounds

Where He Struggles
• occasional slow starts

Why He Can Win

Because his trajectory suggests it is only a matter of time.

5. Richard Mair — The Consistency Machine
Odds to Win: 8/1
Predicted Finish: 3rd–6th

If the EuroDov Cup rewards stability, Richard Mair should always be part of the conversation.

Few players on the Tour build rounds as methodically as Mair. His game revolves around finding fairways, avoiding trouble, and steadily accumulating pars and birdies, rarely exposing himself to the kind of disasters that can derail a three-round championship.

That reliability brought him close in 2025, when he remained firmly in contention until the closing holes before finishing tied for third.

The remaining question is whether Mair can convert consistency into victory.

Every Major contender eventually faces the same moment — the round where solid golf must become winning golf.

When that moment arrives for Mair, a breakthrough could follow quickly.

Where He Succeeds
• accuracy off the tee
• avoiding big numbers

Where He Struggles
• generating bursts of low scoring

Why He Can Win

Because three steady rounds can be enough in this tournament.

6. Graeme Connor — The Iron Artist
Odds to Win: 12/1
Predicted Finish: 4th–7th

Graeme Connor returns to the EuroDov Cup after missing the 2025 edition due to family bereavement, and he will be eager to start his season on a positive note.

Few players strike their irons as purely as Connor. His game is built around precision approach play, a skill that should translate well to the resort-style layouts of the Costa del Sol where receptive greens reward attacking iron shots.

Despite this, Connor has yet to seriously threaten victory on the EuroDov Tour.

That disconnect between ability and results makes him one of the most intriguing players in the field.
If the putter cooperates, the raw tools to contend are clearly there.

Where He Succeeds
• elite iron play
• attacking large greens

Where He Struggles
• converting opportunities into victories

Why He Can Win

Because his skill set fits these courses perfectly.

7. Stuart Allan — The Power Question
Odds to Win: 14/1
Predicted Finish: 5th–8th

Few players possess the raw power of Stuart Allan.

His length off the tee and towering iron shots allow him to attack pins that other competitors simply cannot reach. When Allan is playing well, his scoring ability can overwhelm a golf course.

The challenge has been converting that ability into victories.

Allan himself would likely admit that his win total does not reflect his talent, and the question of when he will finally claim a Major continues to follow him around the Tour.

Encouragingly, the equipment issues that once disrupted his consistency appear to have settled. With a stable set of clubs and renewed trust in his setup, Allan may finally be able to focus entirely on performance.
If the power game clicks for three consecutive days, he could surprise many observers.

Where He Succeeds
• distance off the tee
• aggressive approach play

Where He Struggles
• converting contention into victory

Why He Can Win

Because very few players can overpower a course like he can.

8. Stephen Green — The Dark Horse
Odds to Win: 20/1
Predicted Finish: 6th–8th

Few players are as universally liked on the EuroDov Tour as Stephen Green.

Although his participation has reduced in recent seasons — with the EuroDov Cup now often his primary appearance — his presence remains warmly welcomed by players and fans alike.

Green’s relaxed approach means he often arrives with little expectation, which can make him dangerous.

Freed from the pressure of chasing rankings or season-long goals, he is able to simply play golf.

And when he finds rhythm, he has shown he can compete with anyone.

That combination of experience and freedom makes him one of the field’s most intriguing outsiders.

Where He Succeeds
• relaxed tournament environments
• riding momentum when confidence builds

Where He Struggles
• limited competitive rhythm

Why He Can Win

Because sometimes the most dangerous player is the one with nothing to lose.

Eight Players, One Trophy

The 2026 EuroDov Cup field may be small, but the storylines are anything but.

A five-time champion seeking redemption.

A rival chasing the Grand Slam.

Major winners trying to reassert themselves.

Contenders searching for their first defining victory.

Three days in Marbella will answer all of those questions.

And when the final round ends at Santa Clara, one of these eight names will have written the next chapter in EuroDov Cup history.
