2025 Carnegie Cup: Team EuroDov Tour confirmed

EuroDov Reporter

Friday, 11 April 2025

The EuroDov Tour enters 2025 on the back of 2 Carnegie Cup wins over the SanWedge Tour.

The Cup has become a marquee event on Tour with players scrambling to make the squad in what is the only event in the year where Tour allegiance is called upon.

In 2025 Captain Andy Love faces off against Captain Daniel Peck and the SanWedge Team at a time when co-sanctioned SanWedge players are in the ascendency on Tour and belief in their game at an all time high.

Andy Love introduced a new qualification system for the EuroDov Tour that saw 3 spots available through the Matchplay tournament, 1 spot available through the Montgomery Cup, and up to 6 spots available through a points-based system. The remaining spots to be filled by Captains picks.

After the final qualifying event we had 3 players through the Matchplay, 1 through the Montgomery, 3 through the points qualification and 4 captains picks.

EuroDov Reporter is going to take a deep dive on the 12-man squad in order of their qualification.

Paul Gowens
Qualification: 2024 Matchplay Winner
Notes: Gowens made his playing debut in the 2024 Carnegie Cup – after being a non-playing Vice Captain in 2023.

He set a record that will likely never be met by winning maximum points and by only playing about 25 holes in total.

Gowen’s made the team by winning the Matchplay tournament in 2024 and he added the Lochgelly-Forrester Open a week later, to add to his Anstruther plate he won at the start of July.

Gowen’s also finished third in the overall qualification race.

It’s hard to argue that Gowen’s is the soul of the EuroDov Tour, he’s a rallying point for the players and one of the most liked players out there. A team without him would feel odd indeed.

David McColgan
Qualification: 2024 Matchplay runner-up
Notes: McColgan won’t thank us for pointing out the painful lose on the 18th green at Gleneagles was the moment he made the team – so we’ll soften the blow by saying he also finished top of the points race to make the team.

McColgan’s prowess on Tour is well known. He’s won the first two events in 2025, including his 14th Major. In 2 appearances at the Carnegie Cup he’s undefeated with 5.5 points out of a possible 6.

If Gowen’s is the soul, many would say McColgan is the brains. His golfing IQ makes him the perfect player for Love to use all over the order come tournament day, and McColgan will be determined to keep his record going.

Stuart Allan
Qualification: Third place, 2024 Matchplay
Notes: Allan didn’t have the best day at Gleneagles in the Matchplay semi-finals, but his third-place finish secured him a spot in the Carnegie Cup.

He’s made two appearances, securing 4 points out of 6 and if we’ve had the soul and brains of the team already Allan can certainly make claim to be the brawn.

The big hitting player knows Canmore well and with the power off the tee he’ll be putting opponents under pressure from the off.

Stuart Sutherland
Qualification: 2024 Montgomery Cup winner
Notes: Sutherland’s 2024 season was one for the ages. He would win the first two events of the year at St Andrews and Kinghorn, then rounded the season off by winning the final Major of the year at the Montgomery Cup.

Sutherland’s played twice in the Carnegie Cup winning just one point, but his game is to be compared to previous years it’s definitely in the ascendency.

He should take heart from his second place finish in the points qualification and push on to be a star player for the EuroDov Tour.

Alan Duncan
Qualification: 4th in the points table
Notes: Duncan had qualified for the team before the final qualification event. A deceivingly consistent player he came through the trenches to make the team and that’s going to give him strength and belief he deserves to be there.

He made his debut in 2024 and what a debut it was a 4&2 win in the Foursomes was followed by a 2&1 win in the singles.

Couple his form with his knowledge of Canmore and he’ll be a force to be reckoned with for the EuroDov Tour.

Scott Gowens
Qualification: 5th in the points table
Notes: Gowens wasn’t even a Tour player when the Carnegie Cup was formed, and he was a Q-School debutant in 2024.

His performances however speak for themselves – on his way to winning Q-School he also showed some of his 2025 Order of Merit opponents how it was done.

Gowens will team up with dad, Gowens Snr. to be the first father and son combo to play in the Carnegie Cup and Captain Andy Love will have plenty of options to partner him with players throughout the squad.

Stevie Orr
Qualification: 6th in the points table
Notes: Orr played in the maiden Carnegie Cup and won 1 point from 3.

His 6th place finish in the points table however points to a player who is in the top tier of Tour players through the qualification period and Love will be looking at Orr’s win at the King’s Cup in July 2024 and hoping he can repeat that form to deliver the points of the EuroDov Tour.

Kevin Brannan
Qualification: Captain’s Pick
Notes: Brannan finished 9th in the points table just 550 points off the last qualifying spot, this was despite losing out on half his season in 2024 due to a broken wrist.

A two-time Major winner on Tour Brannan captained the EuroDov Tour to their two wins in 2023 and 2024 and he’ll be back in the players’ room for 2025 thanks to Love’s Captain’s pick.

Of his pick Love said, “Brannan’s a rock at the heart of the Tour, he’s been there since it was founded in 2013, and he knows what the Tour is about. A EuroDov Tour team without feels just wrong.”

Denis Duncan
Qualification: Captain’s Pick
Notes: Duncan finished just 300 points outside the qualification through the points list so his inclusion here seemed somewhat inevitable.

However, the EuroDov Tour fans will points to Den’s 4 points from a possible 6 in his 2 appearances at the Carnegie Cup puts him tied fourth on points for the EuroDov Tour – add to this the host course of Canmore Golf Club and Duncan’s familiarity with it, he’ll be a player many will looked to for a performance.

Allan Kinnear
Qualification: Captain’s Pick
Notes: Kinnear scored no points in the qualification period however, he is the second highest points scorer in the Carnegie Cup – and add that to his dominance in the RyDov Cup, Captain Andy Love really had no choice but to pick him.

Kinnear and Allan can have a drive off for the brawn off the team, but having two assets like them makes the Foursomes variations plentiful.

Greig Baxter
Qualification: Captain’s Pick
Notes: Baxter is the final player to be announced and he finished 10th in the qualifying table – meaning all of the top 10 players in the standings made the team.

However, Baxter’s position was probably inevitable given his 5.5 points out of 6 in the first two Carnegie Cups. He’s a matchplay specialist and add that to his experience around Canmore, he might just be a banker for 3 points come May.

Well, there we have a look at the 2025 EuroDov Tour team to take on the SanWedge Tour at Canmore Golf Club on Sunday 25th May.

We’ll be there with all the news, analysis and commentary, so make sure you join us.
