2025 Captain's New Year Message

Wednesday, 1 January 2025

Hello and a happy new year to all our members in 2025.

It is a real privilege to be the EuroDov Tour Captain for the 2025 season and I look forward to joining as many of you as possible on the course at some point throughout the year.

As we get ready to embark on the 2025 season, I can’t help but reflect on the impact the Tour has had on me and my golf game.

My first ever event, like many of the players on Tour now, was the 2021 Anstruther Medal. I arrived at Anstruther Golf Club, only knowing 1 player but over the course of the day left having met 15 great guys, many of whom are still on Tour now and I’d regard as good friends.

Golf is a very singular game, it is about one person versus the course, there is very little a playing companion or opponent can do to help your game as the only real person who can control what you are doing out there is yourself. However, the EuroDov Tour has taken that individual challenge against the course and created a fun and welcoming environment, that allows players to develop their game and aspire to be better out on the course.

When I joined the Tour full time in 2022 I had very little competitive experience, I wasn’t fully aware of the rules of golf and the thought of playing a competition was nowhere near my mind in terms of golf. However, 3 years on, I am now playing competitive club golf and representing my club in club matches, using the knowledge, and more importantly the confidence I gained from the Tour. This element of the Tour should not be underestimated, and I think it is what really lies at the heart of what the EuroDov Tour does.

Stepping on to the first tee for many of us is a release, it’s four hours of camaraderie and banter, an opportunity to get away from the desk, work and life pressures and just enjoy being out in the fresh air and countryside. The Tour takes us to some spectacular settings from the Eden estuary in St Andrews to the East Lothian coast at Craigielaw and all have restorative properties on all who golf there.

For me this has never been more important following recent my recent ill-health. Both physically and mentally having the Tour there, the boys supporting me, and walking the fairways once again has really hit home how great it is to be part of this Tour and these group of guys.

In 2025 we welcome several new members, the Tour never stands still, and it is always moving forward, and welcoming new like-minded members is great. It is my pleasure to welcome you, I look forward to meeting you in person and hopefully getting a round in soon. I have no doubt you’ll find the same welcome I received in 2021, and I hope you’ll find your time on Tour as enriching as I have.

We’ve got an exciting year ahead and it all kicks off in Marbella at the 2025 EuroDov Cup, it’s the 7th playing of the season opening Major and the 5th time it has been held abroad.

The Matchplay is back in 2025, a tournament I like – for obvious reasons – and it’s success in it’s first year has been reflected in the increased field.

The Order of Merit is back and so too is Q-School, this year Q-School boasts 7 players, showing the strength of the Tour and the draw it has.

The Tour comes together again in May for the annual match against the SanWedge Tour. We now have 8 co-sanctioned players, which is great to see, and we look forward to defending the Carnegie Cup at Canmore Golf Club in May.

And as previously stated, the Tour never stands still and in 2025 we have the prospect of 3 new events on the calendar, the Senior Championship, Scratch Championship and Handicap Championship are likely to be added in the summer which will be a great addition to the competition schedule.

We can’t of course finish without a mention of the RyDov Cup, the annual curtain call for the Tour, an event unparalleled by any Tour and I look forward to leading out my team once again as we seek to defend the cup.

Whether you are playing one event or more in 2025, I wish you all the very best on the course, enjoy your golf, results are good but achieving your own personal targets is far more important.

I look forward to seeing you out there
