Following the success of the 2021 Anstruther Medal, held at Anstruther Golf Club, the Tour are delighted to announce the return of the 9-hole Fourball event in 2022.
The Tour have announced a rotation of venues for the event and in 2022 are delighted to confirm that the Anstruther Medal will be held at Milnathort Golf Club.
This fantastic course is situated within a few miles of St Andrews to the East and Gleneagles to the West, it is situated in some of the best golfing country anywhere in the world. The course has been described as a "hidden gem" right in the middle of great golfing country.
A parkland course which offers the perfect mix of challenge and forgiveness for golfers of all abilities with undulating fairways and beautifully maintained greens overlooked by mature trees.
Tour Secretary, David McColgan, spoke to us following the announcement, “I am delighted we’ve been able to bring the Tour to Milnathort, it is a fantastic course, and having it on the Anstruther Medal rota is a real triumph.
It will present a different challenge to Anstruther’s fast and firm links set-up, and it’ll lend itself to the exciting 9-hole Fourball format.
Many players will recognise the Eastern sky-line as we’ll be teeing up just 1.5 miles along the road from the home of the RyDov Cup, Kinross Golf Courses.”
The event was at capacity within three days of opening and it’s great to see so many familiar faces back from 2021. Here’s a quick look at the teams;
Team One – David McColgan & Jordan Mushet
Team Two – Greig Baxter & Kevin Brannan
Team Three – Graeme Connor & Paul Gowans
Team Four – Allan Kinnear & Stuart Sutherland
Team Five – Barry Cunningham & Daniel Peck
Team Six – Jim Robertson & Kieran Lynch
Team Seven – Stuart Allan & Denis Duncan
Team Eight – Andy Love & Marcus McCran
Some notable mentions in here with Greig Baxter returning in 2022, alongside proposed partner in 2021 Kevin Brannan, Baxter will be hoping to lift the Anstruther Medal for the second year in a row.
The Connor/Peck partnership – winners of the Anstruther Plate – will take different partners and hope for a winning outcome in 2022.
Cunningham and Sutherland will hope to play in 2022 after the Covid-protocols ruled them out in 2021.
And the People’s Pairing of Love/McCran returns in 2022.
Speaking to us, Tour Secretary, David McColgan said, “the appetite for the format has been fantastic again. It was great to see it fill up so quickly with many familiar faces returning from 2021.
I am looking forward to a close fought match come August and look forward to talking to you further as the tournament gets nearer.”
The 2021 Anstruther Medal was a huge success for the Tour and we look forward to 2022 building on that.
We’ll be back nearer the time with an in-depth look at the teams and their chances.
